After much thought, I've decided to come back to Blogger for Sarah's blog. I really did like Wordpress and what they have to offer, but I enjoy the basic blogger style right now. However, I can't come back to this blog exactly due to running out of bandwidth, SO, from now on Sarah's blog will be at: www.meimeiadventures.blogspot.com

Sarah Lu Quotes Part 4

We were walking out of the grocery store and it was raining outside. Sarah rolls her eyes and says, "Uhh, my hair!" We get into the van and I ask her, "What about your hair, Sarah?" She replies, "It's sick... like icky!" I guess she has heard me say that about my hair before after being in the rain!

While teaching Sarah subtraction, I was using little toys to represent the numbers. There were 3 and I asked her what is 3 minus 2 . Sarah responded with "No! MINE IS two, yours is one!" :-) Instead of using 'minus' I now use 'take away', and she gets it right away! What a smart little girl, she keeps us all laughing!

She had a baton that she got at the dollar store. It was liquid filled and she wasn't too careful with it. In fact, she liked to bang it against things like the walls and doors. We told her it was going to break if she wasn't more careful with it, but she didn't listen. One day, it did break. Liquid started pouring out of it. It had to be thrown away. She came in the room, saw it in the garbage, and told Mom, "But that's been in the family for years!" (Actually, she had it for about three days maximum.)

While driving in the car with the windows rolled down, the wind was blowing on Sarah in the backseat. Sarah was upset about it and said:
"This is no time for drama drama drama. My hair is blowing!"

June 11th was our little princess's 4th birthday! It is so hard to believe that Sarah Lu is now FOUR years old!!

Rachael made her the most beautiful Princess cake. It was a pink and purple castle with turrets, and it was just stunning!

We had a Princess themed party for The Princess Sarah Lu's birthday celebration. The table was set in all Disney Princesses while her wrapping paper was Barbie Island Princess (one of her very favorite movies).

Her card was a singing Ro (Barbie Island Princess) card. She just held her card and danced to the music; it was adorable!

Opening her pink bubble wand, the puppies wanted to help! While she was opening one end, both Wesley and Lilly started opening the other end all on their own!

Playing. One of her presents was Barbie Taffy Dog and Puppies. Every time we would go to the store since March, she has seen that toy and said, "I really want this for my birthday!", and so of course, that was one of the first things we knew we had to get for her. When she opened it, she squealed, ran around the room holding the box and said "This is just the present I wanted!" It was the sweetest thing!!!

Tomorrow, June 11th, is Sarah's 4th birthday! Her presents (at least most of them) have been wrapped (in Island Princess paper), her cake has been made- a gorgeous princess castle made by Rachael! Her birthday dress, a pink "fairy" princess dress, is hanging up waiting and a special call (from Sarah's favorite princess) is all set up. Tomorrow is a very special day, and I can't believe she is 4 already and having her second birthday home! Click here to see her birthday celebration last year.

What she wants to be when she grows up: She told me this the other day, "When I'm 16 I'm gonna be a SINGER! And I'm gonna wear dresses and sing!"

Favorite foods: Watermelon!!! She can never get enough watermelon! When we got our first watermelon of the year (memorial day) I lost count on how many pieces she had at 7! She also adores other fruits, along with salmon, roast beef, and mashed potatoes. She said at lunch the other day that spinach was her "favorite" (but she usually calls everything her favorite when she is happy and I can't remember her ever liking spinach before;-))

Favorite game: Currently it is what she calls "the car game" aka "Life" She is pretty good at playing it and understanding the rules- most of the time, she loves the part where you get married and the places that get you a baby, she also thinks when you land on the places with the plane logo that it means you get to go to China and bring your baby home, so now we play this way! Another favorite game is "Duck Duck Goose" She also loves to pretend. Everyday she is someone else. She wants people to call her this and she stays in character for a good part of the day. Usually it is a Barbie Princess. Today she was "Nori" from Barbie Mermaidia.
Favorite toy: A couple weeks ago Daddy was in the Disney Store with Sarah and she fell in love with a stuffed Bambi toy. Daddy bought it for her and it's been close to her ever since. She sleeps with her "baby deer" every night.Other favorite toys include:

A Carter's doll that has her name embroidered on the bottom by Mommy and we sent to her while she was in China and were lucky enough to get it back on Gotcha!

A Bitty Baby that I got for her before she came home and gave to her last year on her birthday, she calls her Imagin.

A Disney Princess Aurora Doll from Rachael.

Favorite book: 101 Dalmatians. She wants this read to her at least once every day, although she wouldn't mind if she could get it more than that! It takes at least fifteen minutes of straight reading to get through. Lots of pages with a couple paragraphs on each page. It's a long book, and I'm surprised she is able to sit through it. She loves puppies, so I think that is why she loves it so much, but I also think Curella De Vil fascinates her... hmm... ;)
Favorite movie: She absolutely adores Barbie Island Princess with Ro and Barbie Princess and the Pauper with Annaliese and Erika.
Favorite TV shows: Little Einsteins, Max and Ruby, Dora, Diego, Wonder Pets, Miss Spider's Sunny Patch, and Little Bill

A little more about Sarah: When people first meet Sarah, the first thing they almost always say is: "Wow, she is really smart!" And they are right! She is constantly amazing us with how smart she is. She is also very energetic and likes to be on the constant move. She loves going to playgrounds and can spend hours just running and playing. She is very passionate, determined- and strong willed. She is also very sweet, loving, and friendly. She loves making friends and is rarely ever shy. She is so full of personality and very dramatic. We were recipients of a Shaohannah's Hope grant for Sarah's adoption. Without their help, Sarah Lu's adoption would not have been possible. What they do through adoption grants is truly a miracle and allows millions of families, like us, to experience the miracle of adoption. We are so thankful for Shaohannah's Hope- without them Sarah Lu could not have come home!

Prayers for Chapman Family in their time of loss

Just days after Steve held our Sarah after his concert, we learned that he returned home... We are deeply saddened to just learn the tragic news tonight that:
"Steven Curtis Chapman’s youngest child died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a car driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the family’s Williamson County home. Maria, one of the Christian singer’s six children, was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Hospital, which confirmed the death, according to Laura McPherson, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol" (http://www.tennessean.com).
Our whole family grieves with the Chapman family in this time of severe loss, and our deepest prayers are lifting you up to the heart of our Lord Jesus Christ. We call for the Christian community of faithful believers to pray and fast for the Chapman family...

Show Hope and Steven Curtis Chapman

After coming home from Sarah and DiDi's reunion, we had a message on the answering machine from Shaohannah's Hope. Steven Curtis Chapman was having a concert in our area and they wanted to know if we would be interested in volunteering for Show Hope again (like we did in September, see HERE). Of course we wanted to and so the next day we were off to be Show Hope volunteers! We had a great time and at the end of the concert, we had raised almost $7,000!!! Some of it was awarded to a family there who had 11 children and was in the process of adopting their 12th! It was an amazing night and just awesome to see people be affected by SCC's Change for Orphans and through adoption!

After the concert when people were on their way out, Sarah stood on top of the table holding the little Show Hope bucket!
It was adorable and many people came up afterwards just to put more in Sarah's little bucket, which, in just a few minutes had over $300 in it!

Lilly is also three years old and was adopted as well. Sarah and Lilly became friends right away and had such a fun time running around and playing together! They were so sweet together!

Both pronounced the same, just spelled differently. She was adopted from China too and is also 5 1/2 (the same age as our Chayah)!

She made freinds with him quickly and even had a little "adventure" with him before the concert started. When we first got there, he came to let us in. The first thing Sarah did was run right up to him, pull on his arm, and say "Excuse me! Where's Steve?" He told her that Steve was upstairs doing an interview. And Sarah replied, "But, why?" She kept talking to him and the two of them became friends. He promised her that he would make sure that she got to see Steve! A little while later Sarah and I were walking around with our Show Hope bucket, collecting change before the concert started and David Trask came over and asked Sarah if she would like to go see Steve. Of course, she did, and so she jumped right into his arms to go off on a Steve-finding adventure. The two of them went to Steve's bus and waited for Steve to come out, but he was in there for a while, so they came back in to the Show Hope booth where we were and he promised to make sure that Sarah would meet Steve before the evening was over, after making sure that she would still be awake after the concert, which of course was a yes! So after the concert was over, we all went back to see Steve. Sarah was super excited and the two of them became friends very fast!

Thursday was a truly amazing day. It has been so long since we first started hearing of "Di Di" in China. It was longer still before we had a face to put to the name. When Sarah came home in December 2006 she talked about all of her friends in China who needed mommy's and daddy's. One day in particular, not long after returning home, Sarah jumped into Daddy's arms and said, "Daddy, Di Di is crying for you!" With this and more we slowly learned about a little boy who Sarah called Di Di, meaning Little Brother. Sarah stayed dedicated to her Di Di and the cause for finding him a family. Di Di, now Adam, was adopted by a family who lives just 45 minutes away from us!! Thursday was the amazing day of Sarah and Adam's reunion. It was unlike what I could have imagined. Adam is the sweetest, cutest, most precious little boy of all time. I am absolutely in love with him! He is such a sweetheart and it is easy to see how much he adores his mommy! And did I mention how cute he is? Wow!! He is one handsome, good-looking little boy! And he is so smiley! I think he smiled the whole time-such a sweetheart! The reunion between the two of them was just perfect! Sarah was thrilled to finally see her Di Di again!! It blew me away to see the two of them together again... it is a miracle! Before we left Sarah insisted on wearing a dress. We tried, unsuccessfully, to convince her that perhaps a dress was not the best choice to play in, but she really wanted to wear it! She also had to wear her hair down and long, so that her Di Di could see it! Sarah had been talking for a while about what she was going to do with "baby Di Di" and one of the first things on her list was to feed him. And she kept this true too when she fed him french fries! Truly, seeing Sarah reunited with her best friend is just amazing! I know we will all be seeing each other much more! It is through God's grace for this miracle of Sarah and Adam's reunion!!

On Thursday afternoon we had the long awaited and absolutely wonderful meeting of Sarah and Adam! It was perfect and I can't wait to write more about it. We had a surprise when we got home- Shaohannah's Hope had called asking us if we could volunteer at Steven Curtis Chapman's concert tonight! We just got home and it was amazing as well!! I will post more about both events soon so be sure to check back for updates!

Till Sarah and DiDi's Reunion!!!

It has been 1 year, 5 months, and 4 days since Sarah and DiDi last saw each other.
In just a few hours they will be reunited!!!
Sarah is very excited. She says she is looking forward to feeding him and playing with him. Sarah has been practicing what she is going to say to him. She is going to say, "Hi DiDi! I'm your Jie Jie Lu Hua!" She is also practicing pulling back her bangs and her hair because we told her that she had very short hair when she knew Di Di.
When Sarah left DiDi, she was 2 1/2 and he was turning two in one month. Sarah definitely remembers him! It will be interesting to see whether or not he remembers Sarah.
Sarah is also excited to see her friend, Neil, DiDi's big brother again! To see when Sarah met Neil in March, go HERE.

Sarah just loves the movie "Enchanted". She especially loves all of the songs, specifically "The Happy Working Song". She is so cute when she sings it too! Watch a video of her singing it above.
Today I had my Rules of the Road test for Driver's Ed. I did the best in the class! I was really happy about that and really glad to have it out of the way. I start Driver's Ed next month.
Sarah is out running errands with Mommy and Daddy right now. We are finally having some nice weather and she has been enjoying running in and out of the house (with no sleeves!), playing on her swing set, blowing bubbles, and just enjoying how warm it was!

Cousins

I know I just started the "every day in may" challenge and already I am getting very bad at it! Our day started yesterday at 5am. We left to go to our Grandma's memorial service. It was a good time to be able to remember our Grandma's life with our family. We spent the rest of the day with our cousins. It was the first time Sarah met all of our cousins and they are definitely all best friends now! Sarah adores all of them and they all love her!

I cannot believe how much Sarah has grown this past year! It is amazing! She still fits the same dress as last year, but from the way she looks you can tell she is a whole year older. Comparing these pictures shows how much she really has changed. That's my beautiful mei mei (little sister)! Or, as Sarah Lu would prefer me to say, my beautiful jie jie (older sister), she likes to be the oldest. ;)

We've finally had some spring weather and we have been enjoying it! Sarah loves to be outside, even though it's not quite warm enough for her request of "no sleeves and princess flip-flops". After the long winter, its nice to go outside and be able to have some fun!

We took Sarah to her first play "Hadassah Meets the King", an original (and amazing!) play where all of the main actors are our very good friends! Sarah loved it!! Some of the girls were worshippers, so they wore beautiful, fancy "princess"dresses which Sarah just loved! She was so good to sit through the whole play. She was very into it! At one point she got a little scared when the bad man came on the stage and she hid her face, but when it was over she even had to go say hi to the bad man! Now she goes around the house singing songs from the play!

A few weeks ago we spent the day with some of our very good friends. Charity and Faith are twins and are 8 years old. They are adopted from Chongqing, China. Joy just turned 7 and is adopted from Tianjin, China. They are the sweetest girls that we've known since the twins were 2 and before Joy was home. I just adore the girls and now Sarah Lu does too!

We had such a fun day today! First we went to Sarah Lu's First Easter Egg Hunt!

And she loved it!

She found so many eggs... her basket was overflowing!

When you go to an Egg Hunt, you first have to find some eggs.

Now pick out an egg and open it...

Then take the yummy chocolate that was inside the egg and eat it...

A Super Fun Get Together with a Really Cool Story

Ever since Sarah first came home, she has talked of her friends in China. One little one was particularly on her heart- her "di di" little brother in Mandarin. I made this video back in April 07 about their story:

Sarah's pleas for her Di Di did not stop. She continued to talk about him all the time. One of the first things she said to us about him was a desperate "Daddy, Di Di is crying for you!" Later we were at a Chinese restaurant in August. When Sarah heard that the owner was leaving for China the next day she pleaded with him, "Are you going to bring my Di Di home?" Sarah was dedicated to getting her Di Di his very own Mommy and Daddy.
Just recently we have found out that Di Di has been placed with the most wonderful family, and they live only 45 minutes away from us!

On Tuesday we had the awesome opportunity to meet up with "Di Di's", soon to be Adam's, mommy and big brother, Neil! Neil is adopted from Korea and is 5 yrs old. He is SO cute and he and Sarah are now the best of friends! They had a blast playing together and when it was time to go, Neil asked his mom, "Is she coming with us?" (SO sweet!) Sarah loves her friend Neil and is so excited that Neil is now on his way to China to become a "Ge Ge" (big brother)!
They are in China now to bring home Adam "Di Di"!!!

While they were playing, there was this one little girl who wouldn't stop bothering Sarah. She just kept running up behind her, grabbing onto her, and hitting her. When this started happening, Sarah ran to Neil and hid behind him for protection. Then Neil told the naughty girl, "Hey! You can't do that! She's my girlfriend, not yours! And you can't play with her. She's MY girlfriend!"
For the entire time in the play area, they always had to be right next to each other and go down the slide together. Whenever Sarah didn't see where Neil was for just a second, she would scream out "NEIL!!!" and he would do the same for her. When he couldn't see her for a second and then she'd come back, he'd always say, "Sarah, where have you been?"

The Nascar was definitely a huge hit! And Neil was so cute driving Sarah around in it! Before it started, he told Sarah, "Hold on! I'm a pretty fast driver!"

At one point, they decided to take different rides, but no worries- they were right next to each other!I thought it was so cute that Sarah picked a pink sparkly spaceship and Neil picked his all time favorite blue sports car! It was so cute!!

And back together again. Neil's a good driver.

They are so adorable and are such good little friends now! They had a hard time saying goodbye. But we'll be seeing Neil again soon, and Adam 'Di Di' too!

I know I posted about a little 5 year old boy about two months ago. I am happy to announce that he has found his family! Still, many children wait. I was amazed at the number of responses I got for the other little boy. I found a blog today that is advocating for another 5 year old little boy. It seems as though this little boy's file will be sent back soon. He is called "Howard" and is listed with the agency ASIA. His special need is Hep. B.
Below I have copied the orginal post from China, Baby!
" There is a little 5 year old boy named "Howard" on our agency's waiting list (ASIA). His file will soon be returned, so time is running out for this sweet little one! His special need is that he is HepB positive without active disease. He is described as follows:"He is very active, thin and tall. He loves to ride the seesaw and play outdoors. Instead of wanting to wear warm clothes, Sarah has decided to wear only spring and summer dresses whenever she has the chance. If we are just at home, Sarah will run off to find a dress to wear and makes sure she puts it on. She's very fond of this pink Sailor dress. It's pretty hard to convince her to wear something other than a dress, sleeveless ones are her favorite, even when there is still LOTS of snow outside. She's stubborn and she knows how she likes to dress!

The Best Time to Buy Christmas Dresses

March is definitely the best time to buy Christmas dresses for next year! Above is Sarah modeling the dresses we found for the girls! They are a black velvet with smocking and I am just in love with them! We found these at Macy's on a HUGE sale! We got them for slightly over $10 a piece! I was so happy there were two of them left in the same size- for Chayah and Sarah! I know the two of them will look so cute this Christmas and I love the fact that they will be matching! So, if you want to stock up on Christmas dresses for next year at a very cheap price, head on over to your Macy's cause they have lots of beautiful dresses!

We took Sarah Lu to her very first movie!!! And she loved it! We went to go see the Veggietales 'Pirates Who Don't Do Anything'. Of course, we just had to get Sarah her all-time favorite snack- Popcorn! She had two refills of that big bucket (with a little help from Jie Jie's). And she thought that that BIG screen was pretty cool. Sarah absolutely loved the movie and is still pretending that she is Princess Eloise (a character from the movie). I loved experiencing one of Sarah's "firsts" with her. I was really surprised at how still she was, although she switched chairs several times, but the movie really held her attention. There were times when she would laugh very loudly and other times when she would hide her face. She kept whispering to Chrissy throughout the entire movie saying, "Guess what? We're at the movie theater!" We had a very fun time and I can't wait to take her again sometime! :)

Sarah and her Wesley: Puppy love!

Daddy surprised Sarah Lu with a Dora Valentine Balloon! Ever since her birthday in June, Sarah has loved the big balloons. She was absolutely thrilled when Daddy pulled out this pretty heart shaped Dora one!! It has not been too far away from her ever since! :) Daddy also surprised her with a ceramic box that says "My Baby" on the front. So sweet! And Daddy filled it with lots of "Hugs" and "Kisses"(the Hershey kind ;) which Sarah Lu loved. This evening we went out for ice cream at Culver's and got the flavor of the day, which today was "Chocolate Covered Strawberry". Yum! Sarah had lots of fun at Culver's. We came home and watched Veggietales' Jonah to finish off the evening. After lots (and lots) of fun dancing to the songs during the credits, Sarah Lu proclaimed,
"I love Valentine's Day!"

Three years ago today, February 8th, Chrissy met Sarah Lu for the first time. Baby Lu Hua was just 7 months old. We are all still amazed at the miracle that the 7 month old baby became our precious daughter and sister. Sarah and Chrissy, February 8, 2008!

We had a little celebration with cupcakes! The cupcakes had "Boots" the monkey from Dora the Explorer on them. The monkey is fitting because Chrissy met Sarah on the last day of the year of the Monkey. It was Chinese New Year's Eve (the CNY date changes every year).

Emily said: Staci is one of the sweetest people I have met. We had the pleasure of traveling to China for our mei meis together back in '06. Since then we have kept in touch. AnnaClaire and Sarah Lu are good little friends, and are both getting a sister from China! Staci and her family recently excepted the referral of little Chayah Elizabeth and they will be bringing her home sometime this year! Christmas was such a great day! Celebrating with Sarah Lu is definitely the best!! She was so excited over each and every present and kept exclaiming "I can't believe" and "This is JUST what I wanted!". It was the sweetest thing ever!! It was a very "princess-ey" Christmas for our little princess. She got: a Disney Princess Pajama dress (which she opened on Christmas Eve so that she could wear it on Christmas morning); a Disney's Enchanted Vanity Table, complete with brushes, a pretend (but makes noise) hair dryer, curlers, etc. from Me, Rachael, and Chrissy; A Disney Princess magna doodle and learn to draw book from Me; My Little Pony; Barbie's Island Princess Kelly Doll and Elephant; My Littlest Pet Shop board game; Barbie's Princess and the Pauper DVD; A Maltese Puppy Purse; and, her 'Mommy Make Me Better' Chou Chou Baby Doll with Doctor kit. We kept asking Sarah, "What is Christmas?" and she will now say "Jesus' B-irt-day"! It was such an awesome Christmas... and not the presents, but more just seeing Sarah and experiencing Christmas with her. The joy that she has over everything is just so perfect and contagious... I just love this girl so much! I am so lucky to be (one of) her Jie Jie's!

She is so thrilled with her Princess Giselle vanity... It is definitely a huge hit!

When we went to the Disney store, she LOVED it and stayed at the display one just playing with it forever, so, us big sisters knew it was time to get it for her for Christmas!

Sarah picked out a present for Mommy herself, and when we asked her what she wanted it to say on the "card", she told us the above words for her Mommy's present. How sweet is that?

December 24, 2006: Christmas Eve, Two Days Home

At this time last year, it was just so amazing. On the night of December 22nd, 2006 we finally came home and became a family of six. It is awesome to see how much Sarah has changed this past year! She is such a great girl! I remember our first Christmas Eve with Sarah, it was the first time we took her out anywhere (we went to church) and she was able to meet some of the people who had been anxiously waiting for that moment. THIS was one year ago.

Yesterday was Rachael's 22nd Birthday!

Sarah helped Rachael open every present, and told Rachael "we is sharing this birthday, it is we's (pointing at herself and Rachael) it is we's birthday." Sarah was definitely the center of attention once Rachael's friends came over. She loved having all the extra attention! ;)
